Aroi Thai – Rhinebeck, NY
I began my professional career as a high school English teacher, and while I loved it I used to lament the inability to go out to lunch. When I left that career behind, I made sure that every job I had afforded that opportunity. Because I am a lady who loves to lunch.
So today I joined my friend Joan for lunch at Aroi Thai in Rhinebeck. Lew and I have enjoyed many dinners there but I was delighted to discover a very inexpensive lunch menu filled with a wide variety of Thai specialties. Lunch provided the same warm service, cozy surroundings, and quiet setting that I’ve enjoyed every time I’ve gone. A full menu is available for lunch and dinner http://www.aroirestaurant.com/menu.html.
We worked backwards from the menu, deciding to share a generous portion of Shrimp Pad Thai (chicken and vegetable options are also available) and Thai Cashew Nut with Chicken.
Since Joan is a new friend I told her to pick the appetizer but I had my fingers crossed that she would select the fresh rolls—I LOVE the cellophane noodle wrapping of those and dearly miss my Whole Foods in Maryland that included them on their salad bar. AND SHE DID!!! I think this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship.
Although we passed on wine (driving and afternoon activities), they do have a full bar and a decent wine selection.
What I love about Aroi is that the food is always really fresh and visibly appealing. The chefs employ a light touch with oil and spices so the result is light and clean; you can really taste the food and its subtle flavoring.
If you need an excuse to visit Rhinebeck (other than the great shopping, galleries, and Oblong Books), use Aroi and a craving for Thai food. It’s worth it.
Know Before You Go:
Don’t miss the lunch specials on the back of the menu. Smaller portions/lower prices/great selection.
Heading there in nice weather? Check out the outdoor patio.
If you hit up Aroi Thai on Sundays, make sure to include the Rhinebeck Farmer’s Market. Next door from May-November; across the street at Town Hall during the winter (alternating Sundays, so check dates here: http://www.rhinebeckfarmersmarket.com/.
